STATUTE: Title 8, Sec. 501 & 502 General law State of Maine

PERMITS AND LICENSES: Requires permits and registration for license

INSPECTION: Annual on-site inspection of fairs, carnivals, circuses, etc. upon entering state. Annual inspection of fixed site rides. Inspection of mobile rides as set up and reassembled. Inspected as complaints received.

Climbing walls started being inspected by the State of Maine in 2011. Ropes courses will most likely be comming soon due to their close and frequent integration. This is a paper inspection. Inspectors from the State of Maine wil be looking for:

  • Engineering Plans and Drawings
  • Operations Manual
  • Inspection Records and Logs - to be performed by Qualified 3rd Party Inspector
  • Staff Training Records and Certficates.

The State of Maine will not physically inspect your climbing structure components or belay systems. Having a state inspection is a duty to demponstrate to the state that you are in compliance with the law and that is it. You must hire a 3rd party inspector to perform a hands on inspection of your climbing walls or towers in the state of Maine.
